G11 visits Atlanta

I had to go to Atlanta this past week for CPT training, and was able to snap a few shots after the first day's session. The VA put us up at the Omni Hotel/CNN Center, and I had a surprisingly good view of the downtown skyline from my 14th floor room. It was also kinda cool being able to see the the CNN studios across the atrium, right outside my hotel door. If you ever have to stay in Atlanta, I recommend the Omni Hotel. Excellent service from a great staff, very nice rooms, and easy access to most of Atlanta's major attractions (which I unfortunately did not have time to visit, since I was there for the training). Anyway... even though I didn't have a tripod with me, I still think I got some decent shots. I had a chance to play around with the G11's settings/controls a little bit, and am enjoying this camera more and more every time I use it.

Non-caged cats.

Neither of my cats have to go to the vet, so I don't have any shots of them caged up, but I couldn't resist snapping a couple shots of them with the new camera and flash. It's amazing how a good quality camera can help you realize how badly you need to vacuum cat hair off the couch...

New G11... First Shot

This is my first shot with my new Canon G11. At this point I hadn't figured out how to adjust white balance, point of focus, or anything else aside from turning it on and snapping a pic. Regardless, I'm thinking I'm really going to like this camera, and look forward to learning more about what I can do with it.

Blown Exposure

Every time I use this camera in the bright snow, the resulting image is always over exposed. This keeps on happening in TV mode. When I put the camera in manual mode, realized the reason. The maximum aperture on this camera is f8. The lens for my DSLR's have a maximum aperture of f22. So, the moral of the story is, increase the shutter speed. I did exaggerate the contact in this photo.

One Pissed off Cat

It was take the cat to the vet day. So, last night I pre-staged the kitty cages in the spare bathroom. Well, she heard the rattle of the cage. Her fur got all ruffled up, and she had the serious eyes wide open scared look on her face. This morning, I moved the cages to the bathtub to have them at a 45 degree angle. This makes it easier to force the cat in the carrier. At that point, she knew it was the cage making the thumping nose, so the hide behind the couch. I did this a few hours before the appointment, and she come upstairs. At this point, I picked her up to get her in the cage for the car ride. She gave a pretty good fight, but I manged to stuff her in the cage.

Snow Again

Great, more snow.
